Season five of the ABB FIA Formula E Championship sees the introduction of the all-new Gen2 car. With almost double the energy storage capacity and double the range of the first car, the next evolution of Formula E will be full of on-track action, as the mid-race car swaps become a thing of the past. Wrapped in our now iconic purple, silver and red livery, Envision Virgin Racing will be aiming to continue its winning ways utilising two of Audi Sport’s e-tron FE05 cars as part of a new technology agreement. Once again, drivers will compete on tight and twisty street circuits located in cities all around the world, reaching speeds in excess of 150mph – and all whilst emitting zero emissions.
Robin Frijns won titles in almost every series he competed in prior to entering Formula E. He cemented his racing credentials in Formula E by gaining a podium in just his second race, Putrajaya, continuing to gain accolades throughout seasons two and three. Continuing to impress outside of Formula E for the last couple of seasons, he returns to the sport with Envision Virgin Racing in Season 5, and is ready to take on the challenge of the all-electric Gen2 car.
Briton Sam Bird has enjoyed a highly successful career spanning a variety of championships since his karting debut back in 2002. He joined Formula E and the team for the inaugural Formula E race in Beijing in 2014, going on to compete in every race to date since. Bird has proved that he is one of the most competitive out on the track and one of just two drivers to have recorded victories in every Formula E season.
